Instead, Daphne didn’t face any repercussions. I would’ve far preferred that over what actually happened. Daphne would hit rock bottom and lose everything, but she’d still have Ethan, and I figured those two would fall in love. What was the point of even having the plotline of Himari being in a coma if nothing was going to happen because of it? I thought for sure Himari would wake up, expose Daphne, and Jeff would realize that Nina was right about what a horrible person Daphne was. There was barely even time for there to be tension before it was gone, and there was such amazing tension in American Royals! What went wrong here? Himari and her parents were just shipped off to another country, due to Daphne blackmailing Beatrice, and the two girls made up and we didn’t hear from Himari again. There was maybe a chapter after Himari realized that Daphne was the reason she was in her coma where Daphne was afraid Himari would ruin her life, but nothing happened, and the whole thing was just pushed aside.

Himari woke up from her coma, and there were just no repercussions for Daphne. I liked seeing Beatrice adjust to her new position, even if it was infuriated seeing her being undermined, and seeing her fall in love with Teddy was just adorable. In fact, the first half of the book, I didn’t really have a problem with. And I do love the fake-dating trope, so they got bonus points for that. Sam and her new boyfriend, Marshall, were also adorable. Beatrice and Connor, Jeff and Nina, Sam and Teddy, even Daphne and Ethan! I will say, I didn’t mind Connor leaving in the beginning and Beatrice and Teddy falling in love I thought that was actually sweet, and I did ship them. This book was so disappointing for me, especially because American Royals is a favorite of mine, and this just didn’t live up to the expectation that American Royals set for it.įirst of all, all of the ships from American Royals were just blown up and disregarded. And a dangerous secret threatens to undo all of Daphne’s carefully laid “marry Prince Jefferson” plans.

Nina is trying to avoid the palace–and Prince Jefferson–at all costs. Samantha is busy living up to her “party princess” persona…and maybe adding a party prince by her side.

Ahem, we’re looking at you Daphne Deighton.Īs America adjusts to the idea of a queen on the throne, Beatrice grapples with everything she lost when she gained the ultimate crown. Some, like Nina Gonzalez, are pulled into it. Like first love, it can leave you breathless.
